Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the things people ask most.

About the app

Is DiskPeek free?

No. It costs about the price of a coffee, once. There is no subscription, no trial that expires into one, and no paywall that appears when the scan finds something big. You buy it and it is yours.

What does it need?

macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel.

Does it work on external drives?

Yes. Each volume needs granting once, the same as your startup disk, and they get their own numbered shortcut in the sidebar order.

What languages does it speak?

English, Português, Français, Español, Русский, 中文 and 日本語. You can switch instantly in Settings or from the welcome screen, without restarting.

Privacy

Does DiskPeek read my files?

No. It reads names, sizes and dates. It never opens a file’s contents, and it only ever looks where you have explicitly given it permission.

Does it send anything anywhere?

It sends anonymous crash reports and basic usage counts, which is how I find out something broke on a Mac that is not mine. Every path, filename and volume name is stripped before anything leaves your machine.

Can it delete something by accident?

Deleting is always something you ask for, it always goes to the Trash, and there is no permanent delete in the app. It also verifies the item is still the one it scanned before moving it.
